Chess is an ancient board game and two player mental strategy. Chess is played on a square board consisting of eight rowas called ranks, and eight columns.

Each chess player starts out with eight pawns, two knights, two bishops, two rooks, one queen, and one king. In the game of chess when the player's king is directly attacked the player is said to be "in check." The object of the game is to checkmate your opponent.
